The Medical Education Department is dedicated to anticipating the needs of our internal and external customers and to provide educational experiences that are appropriate and valued. It is also our intent to develop an educational culture that embraces the sharing of information within our organization and with our business partners.
The Educational Conferences Team leads Smith & Nephew's involvement and participation in select industry shows to increase awareness and provide Smith & Nephew the opportunity to influence through education.
The Team also coordinates efforts at Smith & Nephew sponsored events and meetings.
The Clinical Education Team develops, provides, and evaluates the effectiveness of education for our customers. The team continually assess these educational offerings for relevance, acceptance, and to ensure that they are clinically and educationally sound.
Customer educational offerings include Options Programs, Clinical Education, Internship Programs that offer select customers the opportunity for advanced education, self-study video modules which provide continuing education credits, and educational programs developed for non-licensed patient care providers.
The goal of Community Education is to promote the values of the organization and inspire our employees to become active in organizations where they live and articulate the Smith & Nephew values. Using the arts and creative designs, Smith & Nephew developed interactive community projects. Other community activities include involvement and support of organizations that will help our employees better understand the needs of our customers and attract potential employees to our organization.

Wound bed preparation is a new way of thinking which develops proven concepts to build a platform for the treatment of chronic wounds. In essence, wound bed preparation organizes currently approved medical practices and procedures by using a holistic approach to evaluate and remove displayed barriers to the healing process. Removal of these barriers allows the wound repair process to progress normally.
The Global Wound Academy provides worldwide access to education and information about the therapeutic area of wound management.
The Academy offers the learner a series of modular courses at different levels through which you can extend your knowledge of wound care. To this effect, 'The Learning Zone' presents the theory of wound management moving from basic principles of physiology to advanced wound care and applications and current research in the management of patients with wounds.
In addition to this the interactive patient studies enable you to assess, diagnose and treat patients based on their medical history and the results of the clinical tests.
