SUPARTZ
® Joint Fluid Therapy is injected directly into the knee joint. This acts as a lubricant to enable your bones to move smoothly over each other and as a shock absorber during weight-bearing activities. Treatment consists of five injections of SUPARTZ
® therapy given one week apart; however, some patients have had success following only 3 injections.
* You may repeat SUPARTZ
® treatment every 6 months.

At your appointment, your doctor may use a local anesthetic to numb your knee. Your doctor then will remove the fluid that is currently in your joint in a process called arthrocentesis. Finally, your doctor will give you a SUPARTZ® injection into the joint space. The whole procedure takes only a few minutes. Your doctor may ask you to refrain from strenuous activities for a couple of days following the injection.
Most patients experience minor or no discomfort during the injection1; however, if fear is limiting your willingness to get treatment, talk to your doctor about ways to reduce any mild pain that may occur during the injection.
*Some patients may experience benefit with three injections given at weekly intervals. This has been noted in a study in which patients treated with three injections were evaluated for 90 days.
