Preparation for Minimally Invasive Spine Procedure

Preparation for Minimally Invasive Spine Procedures

Smith & Nephew

If your physician feels that you are a candidate for one of Smith & Nephew's minimally invasive spine procedures, there are a few important steps you must remember in the days leading up to your surgery.

One week before your procedure:

  1. Stop taking all NSAIDs, aspirin and aspirin-containing compounds.
  2. Continue heart, blood pressure or diabetes medications, or other medications as directed by your physician.
  3. Be sure to tell your physician if you are taking blood thinners, have a history of a bleeding disorder, are allergic to iodine (for example, shellfish or IVP dye), or have an infection in any part of your body.

The day of your procedure:

Rest well the night before the procedure. You should not eat the day of your procedure, although you may drink small amounts of clear liquid. You should arrange to have someone drive you to and from the medical facility. You should not drive a car until it is deemed feasible by your treating physician.
