Staying active

Staying Active

When you have knee pain, exercise plays an important role in staying healthy and active. Exercise helps decrease fatigue, increase strength and flexibility and reduce joint pain. Moderate exercise can improve joint pain and help you maintain a healthy weight.

Common examples include stretching, biking, walking and light weight training. Underwater exercises have the added benefit of being low impact while providing mild resistance.

Your exercise program should reflect your goals. Before starting, understand your limits and what type of program will best meet your needs. Then talk to your physician to see how exercise can fit into your current treatment plan. Your doctor may recommend that you meet with a physical therapist to determine your specific exercise and joint protection needs.
