Patient Matched Technology
Smith & Nephew
Pam is 64 and recently retired. Her plans for retirement have always included plenty of the travel enjoys so much. “What I want to do with my life now is just be able to get in the car and GO.”
However, over the past five years, it had become increasingly difficult for Pam to enjoy her travel. The arthritis in her knee, first discovered in 2003, just made it too painful. Injections would get her through her vacations feeling “okay,” but the effects wouldn’t last.
When her doctor finally told her she really needed a knee replacement, she quit going to see him. She had normal fears – among them, what would the recovery process be like? The physical therapy was scary. But the arthritis pain eventually got so bad that she knew she had to face her fears and do something. She arranged the surgery.
Two days prior to the procedure, her surgeon informed her that VISIONAIRE◊ Patient Matched Technology was about to come on the market, and he felt it was a replacement worth waiting for. She took his advice and waited the three weeks, and had her surgery in March 2009.
“The recovery has been really good. My physical therapist will have me talk to people who are just coming in and say ‘See what I can do now?’”
After Disney World, Pam and her husband are looking forward to more travel, just as she’d always hoped. “We’re baseball fans. We love our Houston Astros. And we like to take one trip a year to go see them play somewhere else.”
This year they’re able to hop in the van and just head out, free from worrying about Pam’s pain.
