Proper training has shown that there is limited effect of a learning curve using the BIRMINGHAM HIP◊ Technique. Shimmin, et al, in evaluating their learning curve, demonstrated limited clinical complications in their first 200 cases(7).
The instruments have been developed to facilitate accurate placement of the components. When combined with the proper technique, accurate placement is easily achieved. The instruments have been upgraded and improved over time, but the ability to properly align the implants has been maintained and improved, facilitating the surgeons’ use of the proper technique.
