Fracture Treatments

Smith & Nephew

An estimated 6.8 million fractures occur every year in the USA. And, when you consider patient age, medical condition, fracture location and severity, no two fractures are exactly alike. That’s why a physician may consider several types of fracture treatments or a combination of treatments.

Treatments your physician may consider might include:

  • Cast, splint, brace, boot (conservative treatment)
  • Surgery, including internal and external fixation

Despite proper stabilization and fixation, 5%–10% of fractures will show delayed or no healing (non-unions).

Different bones, depending on location and severity, will heal at different rates.
