The BIRMINGHAM HIP◊ provides for normal anatomy and improved bone loading. These benefits allow the patient to load the hip in ways that hips are normally loaded.

 

When following his younger patients, Derek McMinn, lead developer of metal-on-metal resurfacing, analyzed the activity levels using an industry standard activity scale(2). He found that four out of five of the patients participated regularly in active events such as bicycling, gardening and working out in the gym. The study found that over half occasionally or regularly participated in impact activities. Out of this group, he saw very high success of the hip resurfacing, with over 99% of the implants still in place at 5 or more years.
