Smith & Nephew introduced the first compression hip screw in 1956 and has continued its leadership and innovation for over 40 years.

The result of this experience is the strongest and most reliable compression hip screw systems available today -- the AMBI◊ and CLASSIC Hip Screw Systems. AMBI◊ offers the simplicity and convenience of a "keyless" system that can be converted to "keyed" by insertion of a clip. CLASSIC is our keyed system providing the strongest system available today.

Both systems use our AMBI◊/CLASSIC Lag Screws. Standard diameter (12.7mm) and Super diameter (14.3mm) lag screws are available to match with patient's bone quality.

AMBI◊/CLASSIC Hip Screws feature:

  • Specific Indications for intertrochanteric, pertrochanteric, and subtrochanteric fractures
  • Choice of keyed (CLASSIC) or key-less (AMBI◊) systems in angles 130 to 150 degree and in lengths from 60mm to 300mm (2 to 14 slot)
  • Highest strength implants (tested in fatigue)
  • Comprehensive instrument systems
  • Most components sterile packed for Operating Room convenience
  • Tapered minor diameter to lag screws for optimal bone purchase
  • Proximal slot on sideplates accept 6.5 cancellous or cannulated screws
  • Supracondylar plates also available for use with a standard AMBI◊/CLASSIC instrument set.
