Smith & Nephew offers a complete family of fixation staples with distinct design advantages. Tapered legs wedge into bone. Serrations that project from the legs (rather than being cut into them) lock into hard bone and decrease chances of staple back-out. Underside spikes "tack down" rather than press down, allowing better fixation of soft tissue and reducing the chances of necrosis. Our patented driving mechanism locks onto each staple to help prevent slippage.

The staple family includes:

  • Table fixation staples, which offer a variety of applications including knee ligament repair, arthrodesis of the wrist and ankle, epiphysial growth arrest, ankle fracture, transplantation of the tibial tubercle, avulsion of the Achilles tendon, triple arthodesis, and proximal humerus fractures.
  • Osteotomy fixation staples, which can be used in high tibial osteotomies to correct varus or valgus deformities, helping to retain cut surfaces in the desired degree of apposition until healing occurs. Equal leg lengths help prevent malposition during insertion.
  • Regular fixation staples, which are especially useful in fixing soft tissue to bone, including anterior cruciate reconstruction. They also are useful for fragment fixation, tendon and ligament repair and in controlling bone growth. Four sizes are available, in regular and short lengths, with or without spikes.
  • Krackow HTO staples, which are very useful in high tibial osteotomies and other applications where the combined benefits and improved rotational stability of a blade/staple are indicated. Serrations in the inner blade help resist pullout.
