Only the EXOGEN◊ system uses LIPUS$%1%$ technology to stimulate a clear biological response at the cellular level

Osteoblasts are shown to respond to ultrasound stimulation as they begin to initiate the intracellular healing cascade.2

Osteoblasts are shown to respond to ultrasound stimulation

Only EXOGEN◊ Ultrasound has been proven to activate receptors called integrins, which are found on a wide range of cells crucial to bone healing3,4

Research shows that EXOGEN◊ Ultrasound accelerates the body’s own healing processes at all stages of fracture healing$%5-8%$

EXOGEN◊ Ultrasound also upregulates proteins essential to bone repair: osteocalcin, osteonectin I, and osteopontin; other bone-healing enzymes, genes, and growth factors: alkaline phosphatase, MMP-13, and IGF-12

  • Summary of Indications for Use
The EXOGEN◊ Ultrasound Bone Healing System is indicated for the non-invasive treatment of established non-unions† excluding skull and vertebra. In addition, EXOGEN◊ is indicated for accelerating the time to a healed fracture for fresh, closed, posteriorly displaced distal radius fractures and fresh, closed or Grade I open tibial diaphysis fractures in skeletally mature individuals when these fractures are orthopaedically managed by closed reduction and cast immobilization.

Contraindications: There are no known contraindications for the EXOGEN◊ device.  Warnings and precautions pertaining to the treatment of either condition may be found at www.exogen.com or by calling 1-800-836-4080.

† A non-union is considered to be established when the fracture site shows no visibly progressive signs of healing. Rx only.
