The lifetime prevalence of chronic lower back pain in the United States is 10% to 20%, and 30% to 50% of chronic low back pain originates in the lumbar spinal discs. INTRADISCAL ELECTROTHERMAL◊ Therapy (IDET◊) is a percutaneous procedure that delivers precisely controlled doses of therapeutic heat to the damaged regions of lumbar spinal discs. In numerous clinical studies the IDET◊ procedure has relieved chronic lower back pain, reduced medication usage, decreased disability allowing patients to return to work, and improved functional measures such as the ability to sit or walk.

  • In 6 prospective case series reporting the percentage of patients with significant improvement in pain, rates of significant improvement ranged from 45% to 67%.
  • In 4 prospective case series that measured patient satisfaction, between 63% and 88% of patients said they would have the IDET◊ procedure again.
  • More than 75,000 IDET◊ procedures have been performed in the United States alone since 1998.
  • The average cost of IDET◊ is 7 to 8 times less than the average hospital cost of lumbar fusion surgery.
