Executive Management
David joined the Group in May 2002 as President of Orthopaedics and was appointed a director and Chief Operating Officer in February 2006. Appointed Chief Executive from 1 July 2007. Prior to joining the Group he held posts within GE Medical, as Chief Executive Officer of a publicly traded medical devices company, President of a respiratory/critical care company and President of a technology incubator company.
Adrian joined the Group and was appointed a director in June 2006. He was previously Chief Financial Officer of Invensys plc and held various senior positions within GlaxoSmithKline.
Mark joined the Group in 2003 as Vice President of Global Marketing for the Trauma Division, becoming President Orthopaedic Trauma and Clinical Therapies in February 2006. He became President of Biologics on the formation of the new GBU in January 2008. He previously worked for GE Medical Systems in the US and Asia.
Elizabeth joined the Group in June 2004 as Sr. Vice President Human Resources Orthopaedics. Appointed Group Director of Human Resources from 1 August 2007. Prior to joining Smith and Nephew, Elizabeth held successively larger, HR roles with Bristol-Myers Squibb, supporting both US and international businesses, as well as global research institute.
Jack Campo joined the Group in June 2008 from the GE Equity division of General Electric Company, where he was a Senior Managing Director and General Counsel. During his time with GE, he spent 5 years in Hong Kong with the Medical Systems business, as well as time in Transactions with both Medical Systems in their Milwaukee headquarters and at GE Corporate in Fairfield, Connecticut.
Prior to GE, he worked with Biogen, Inc. and Bank of New England Corporation. Before he moved into public companies, Jack worked with Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York and Paris.
Sal joined the Group in 2001 and leads Smith & Nephew’s Global Information Services (GIS) group. He was appointed to this role in April 2007, when Smith & Nephew centralized its Information Services teams across business units. Previously, he served as Vice President for Information Technology and Digital OR in the Endoscopy business unit.
Sal brings over 20 years of information services expertise to this role. Prior to joining the Group, he served in executive leadership positions with Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Baxter Healthcare.
Joseph "Joe" M. DeVivo joined Smith & Nephew in June 2006 as the President for the Orthopaedic Reconstruction business.
Joe came to the company with 18 years of marketing, development, sales, operations and executive leadership experience. Before coming to Smith & Nephew, he served as president & CEO of RITA Medical System, Inc. (Fremont, Calif.), a publicly traded developer, manufacturer and marketer of ablation devices.
Michael joined the Group as President Endoscopy in July 2006. Previously he was President and Chief Executive Officer of a US manufacturer of medical devices and spent 15 years at Tyco Healthcare becoming President of each of Patient Care and Health Systems divisions.
Susan Henderson, MA, FCIS has had 25 years experience as a company secretary in a wide range of businesses covering Board support, corporate governance, corporate transactions, corporate social responsibility, pensions, insurance and employee and executive share plans. She joined Smith & Nephew in May 2009 as Company Secretary. She has previously held various company secretarial positions at Prudential, RMC and Amersham, where she was Deputy Secretary for 5 years prior to its takeover by GE in 2004.
Liz has been Group Director of Corporate Affairs for Smith & Nephew since 2004. Liz is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, having qualified with Arthur Andersen & Co. She has worked for ten years in the venture capital industry for Gartmore Investment Limited, Citicorp Venture Capital Limited and 3i Group plc and then as Director, Corporate Affairs for 3i Group.
In 2003, Liz was seconded by 3i to the Department of Trade and Industry and HM Treasury where she worked on an SME financing programme which was announced in the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement in 2003.
Liz is a trustee of Cancer Research UK.
Gordon joined the Group in May 1998 in Finance and has served in planning and business development roles in the Orthopaedic GBU. He was appointed to his current role in August 2007. Prior to joining the Group, he held management positions with United Technologies Corporation.
The President of the Emerging Markets, Kelvin Johnson, has been with Smith & Nephew for more than 20 years. A South African, with qualifications in Economics, Industrial Psychology, Labour Economics and Business Administration, his experience covers Manufacturing, HR, Business Development, Selling and Marketing.
His base in the Middle East permits him to travel widely between the various Emerging Markets he controls, and he has extensive knowledge about the Geopolitical and Economic factors that make these markets so unique, and so commercially attractive.
Prior to Smith & Nephew he worked in the Automotive Industry, for the Ford Motor Company.
