Executive Management
Smith & Nephew has a number of executives responsible for the day-to-day management of the Group and committees which support the Chief Executive Officer. Executive Directors and Executive Officers (both persons discharging managerial responsibilities’ (PDMR)), and members of the Group’s Commercial and Operations Committee (CommsOps) and Chief Executive’s Staff Committee (CES) are set out below.
Adrian joined the Group and was appointed a director in June 2006. He was previously Chief Financial Officer of Invensys plc and held various senior positions within GlaxoSmithKline. Adrian is a member of the Supervisory Board of Reed Elsevier NV and a non-executive director of Reed Elsevier PLC. PDMR. CommOps. CES.
Mark joined the Group in 2003 as Vice President of Global Marketing for the Trauma Division, becoming President Orthopaedic Trauma and Clinical Therapies in February 2006. He became President of Biologics on the formation of the new GBU in January 2008. He previously worked for GE Medical Systems in the US and Asia. PDMR. CommOps. CES.
Jack Campo joined the Group in June 2008 from the GE Equity division of General Electric Company, where he was a Senior Managing Director and General Counsel. During his time with GE, he spent 5 years in Hong Kong with GE Healthcare (successor to GE Medical Systems), as well as time in Transactions with Healthcare in their Milwaukee headquarters and at GE Corporate in Fairfield, Connecticut.
Prior to GE, he worked with Biogen, Inc. and Bank of New England Corporation. Before he moved into public companies, Jack worked with Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York and Paris. PDMR. CES.
Francisco joined Smith & Nephew in January 2012 as President of Emerging Markets, which encompasses the Group’s operations in China, India, Brazil and Russia. During his career he has held senior management roles in global companies including Gambro AM, Excelsior and Baxter International. Francisco has lived and worked in several countries including China, Japan, the US and Spain and is a former Board member of EUCOMED. PDMR. CommOps. CES.
Michael joined the Group in July 2006 as President of our Endoscopy business. Since July 2011 he has headed up our Advanced Surgical Devices Division. Previously he was President and Chief Executive Officer of a US manufacturer of medical devices and spent 15 years at Tyco Healthcare becoming President of each of Patient Care and Health Systems divisions. Susan Henderson, MA, FCIS has had 25 years experience as a company secretary in a wide range of businesses covering Board support, corporate governance, corporate transactions, corporate social responsibility, pensions, insurance and employee and executive share plans. She joined Smith & Nephew in May 2009 as Company Secretary. She has previously held various company secretarial positions at Prudential, RMC and Amersham, where she was Deputy Secretary for 5 years prior to its takeover by GE in 2004. CES.
Gordon joined the Group in May 1998 in Finance and has served in planning and business development roles in the Orthopaedic GBU. He was appointed to his current role in August 2007. Prior to joining the Group, he held management positions with United Technologies Corporation. PDMR. CommOps. CES.
The President of International Markets, Kelvin Johnson, has been with Smith & Nephew for more than 20 years. A South African, with qualifications in Economics, Industrial Psychology, Labour Economics and Business Administration, his experience covers Manufacturing, HR, Business Development, Selling and Marketing.
Prior to Smith & Nephew he worked in the Automotive Industry, for the Ford Motor Company. PDMR. CommOps. CES.
Helen joined the Group in July 2011 as Senior Vice President of Human Resources. Helen brings more than 30 years of experience across a variety of international and global HR and operational roles in both medical devices and pharmaceuticals. Most recently, Helen was Divisional Vice President of Human Resources for the Pharmaceuticals Group of Abbotts Laboratories. PDMR. CommOps. CES.
