CONVENE™

Bipolar System

The CONVENE^◊ Bipolar System is an advanced generation product. It surmounts common problems with competitive and older generation bipolars with some new ideas. When Smith & Nephew set about designing a new bipolar system, several goals were set:

good range of motion

high forces required for dislocation

improved polyethylene wear

All of these objectives were achieved in the new design. The CONVENE^◊ Bipolar features a very wide chamfer that provides great range of motion. The femoral head is pushed into the one-piece polyethylene liner intraoperatively with a special assembly tool. This method of assembly makes dislocation very difficult and also makes it possible for the femoral head and polyethylene liner to be very congruent. The congruency of the liner and head reduces polyethylene wear, as well as the one-piece liner design. The polyethylene is sterilized by the non-degrading EtO sterilization method.

The product is constructed of cobalt chrome and offered in sizes 38-60 mm outer diameters in 1 mm increments. The CONVENE^◊ Bipolar can be used with any of the Smith & Nephew femoral components.
