Description

ACTICOAT^◊ Post-Op is an absorbent post-operative dressing consisting of the following:

A Nanocrystalline^† silver-coated polyurethane layer
A white polyurethane foam pad
An adhesive coated waterproof polyurethane film layer

ACTICOAT^◊ Post-Op provides an effective barrier to microbial contamination protecting the wound from invasive pathogenic micro-organisms, thus assisting faster healing. Nanocrystalline silver is also effective against microorganisms present in the wound. In the presence of exudate the dressing will help maintain a moist wound environment.

Indications

ACTICOAT^◊ Post-Op dressing is indicated as an absorbent dressing for use on exuding partial and full thickness wounds such as surgical wounds, dehisced surgical wounds, pressure ulcers, venous ulcers, diabetic ulcers, burns, donor sites and recipient graft sites. ACTICOAT^◊ Post-Op may be used on infected wounds.

Where the product is used on infected wounds the infection should be inspected and treated as per local clinical protocol.

Contraindications / Precautions

Contraindications
Do not use on patients with a known sensitivity to silver. Do not use on patients during MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) examination. Prior to commencing radiation therapy remove ACTICOAT^◊ Post-Op. A new dressing can be applied following treatment.

Precautions
For external use only.
ACTICOAT^◊ Post-Op is not compatible with oil-base products such as petrolatum.
ACTICOAT^◊ Post-Op may not be compatible with topical antimicrobials. Do not use ACTICOAT^◊ Post-Op with saline. ACTICOAT^◊ Post-Op is not compatible with oxidizing agents (e.g.…EUSOL) as these can break down the absorbent polyurethane component of the dressing.
Avoid contact with electrodes or conductive gels during electronic measurements e.g. EEG and ECG. As with all adhesive products, it should be noted that inappropriate use or too frequent dressing changes, particularly on patients with fragile skin, can result in skin stripping. If reddening or sensitisation occurs, discontinue use. ACTICOAT^◊ Post-Op should only be used in premature infants (<37 weeks gestation) when clinical benefit outweighs any potential patient risk.
